Central Florida Farm Tour is a self-guided driving tour featuring some of the most extraordinary farms located throughout east Polk County, FL.   On Saturday,  April 22nd participating farms will open their “barn doors” to the public.

This is a unique opportunity for guests to experience working farm operations not normally open to the public.  Pick your adventure.  Visit a few farms or visit all farms at your own pace.

Enjoy the day exploring farms and learning about the area’s rich agricultural tradition.  Bring your cooler and take advantage of the opportunity to pick your own fruit and vegetables or buy plants direct from several farm nurseries.   On the tour you’ll encounter cattle, horses, pigs, chickens, rabbits, donkeys, ponies, goats, honey bees, fish and even a water buffalo.   This is a rain or shine event.

Admission: $20 per vehicle   Load up your family and friends in your Fiat or bus  – the price is the  same.

PARTICIPATING FARMS

Citrus Farm – Haines City  A family-owned and operated citrus business.    Guests can tour the citrus grove, packing house and cattle operations.  The family can pick fruit right from the trees for an additional fee.    For more details and driving directions order you passport here. 

Horse Farm – Auburndale  This non-profit horse and donkey rescue will be hosting a fun family themed event with activities for the children.   The barn will only be open from 2pm to 6pm on this day.  Make this the last stop on our tour.   For more details and driving directions order you passport here. 

Organic Farm – Babson Park –  This farm offers one of the largest selection of vegetables and fruits in Florida available for u-pick for an additional fee.  The farm is designed to produce a crop each month of the year.  Learn how  upscale new home communities are incorporating this farm  model into area new home developments.  For more details and driving directions order you passport here.

Permaculture Farm – Lake Wales    Enjoy touring a large organic garden  with a wide variety of tropical fruits and vegetables. Visit the goats, water buffalo and other barnyard animals on this scenic self-sustaining farm.  This is one of Polk County’s best kept secrets.  This farm focuses on training young people for missionary work in developing countries.  This is an experience you won’t  soon forget –  and for a some a life-changing experience.  Plants from the nursery are available for purchase.  For more details and driving directions order you passport here. 

Student Farm – Lake Wales  –  This actual working farm is run by high school students.   The farm features a diverse selection of crops that are grown in an enclosed nursery environment.  The farm not only grows produce for local outlets but also cultivates students through a hands-on curriculum.  This is a very impressive operation you won’t want to miss.  For more details and driving directions order you passport here. 

Community Farm – Winter Haven – This non-profit farm operates an urban farm featuring a wide selection of vegetables and produce.  Enjoy a farm-to-table snack or lunch from the on-premise food truck.  U-pick opportunities are available for an additional fee.  Proceeds from the this farm are donated to the less fortunate in our community.   For more details and driving directions order you passport here. 

Organic Farm – Auburndale  – Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from the farmer.   They grow strictly organically a diverse variety of vegetables and fruits.   CSAs are a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer.  For more details and driving directions order you passport here. 

Blueberry Farm –  Haines City – one of the area’s favorite blueberry u-pick farms will be open for guests.   This farm is ideal for families with young children or active seniors looking for a new experience.   While the rows between the blueberry bushes are not paved they are accessible from a wheelchair.   U-pick opportunities  available for an additional fee.   For more details and driving directions order you passport here. 

Exotic  Plant Nursery – Winter Haven – if you are a horticultural enthusiast you will love this nursery.   This farm has an impressive selection of rare and exotic fruiting and medicinal plants, succulents, fresh seasonal fruit and dried herbs.  You won’t find most of these plants at your local garden center. Horse Farm  –  Bartow  – make sure you drop by the horse farm and riding academy.  The farm offers riding lessons, leases, boarding, pony parties, trail rides, activity days, gymkhanas, and summer camps. Come out and groom one of the many ponies, horses, or donkeys. Free pony rides for those 5 and under; others may ride for an additional fee.
